You’ve stumbled on an unknown ocean world with just one way out: down.
Dive into the depths of a massive undersea world full of adventure and danger to explore coral reefs, volcanoes, caves, and more. Craft equipment, pilot submarines, and outsmart wildlife while attempting to avoid death.
This is a survival game, so death does have its penalties. Subnautica features three difficulties options, and each one of them has a different penalty from the other.
About the Game
Unknown Worlds Entertainment developed and released Subnautica, an open-world survival action-adventure computer game.
After their spaceship, the Aurora, crashes on the alien planet 4546B’s surface, players are free to explore the ocean.
The main goal is to explore the ocean and survive its threats, while also accomplishing tasks that help to progress throughout the story.
The game allows players to gather materials, craft tools, bases, and submersibles, and interact with the planet’s animals.
The game’s rewarding parts include gathering food and water, creating an underwater habitat, and surviving the elements.
That is not all, Subnautica’s realistic atmosphere, brilliant story, and tremendous terror factor add some of the most unforgettable moments.
Main Story
Subnautica is set in the far future when humanity has been populating other solar systems.
On its first trip, the Aurora, a deep-space vessel built by the Alterra Corporation, was dispatched to the furthest ends of unknown space, precisely to the Ariadne Arm.
Its main objective is to construct a PhaseGate in the Ariadne Arm, which is a part of high-speed space transit infrastructure.
However, the ship’s hidden purpose, which most of the crew is unaware of, is to locate and perhaps rescue the crew of the Degasi, which crashed 10 years ago on planet 4546B.
The Aurora is physically waylaid by a mystery energy pulse and crashes into the planet after entering the orbit of 4546B. Several crew members, including Ryley Robinson who is the player character, escape into life pods and launch them from the Aurora during the descent.
The residents of the other life pods died for different reasons, leaving Ryley as the survivor.
Ryley discovers documents indicating that only three members of the Degasi’s crew survived the original crash, but eventually he discovers that two of them are confirmed to be dead and one is believed dead.
What happens when you die in Subnautica?
What happens when you die solely depends on which difficulty you play on.
In survival mode: the player must maintain the level of their health, hunger, thirst, and oxygen.
If they die, the player respawn with whatever they had saved in the life pod before leaving it, but any items that haven’t been saved to it and obtained after leaving the pod are considered lost.
In freedom mode: the gameplay is similar to survival mode, but you don’t have to worry about hunger and thirst since they are disabled.
In hardcore mode: you still have to maintain your depleting characteristic of health, hunger, thirst, and oxygen but with a twist.
The twist is the permadeath, which means that if the player dies, they can not respawn. Instead, the save file is deleted and they have to start all over again.
This mode is mainly for those who are up for a real challenge.
