TERA is an MMORPG game developed by Bluehole Studio. But as with any MMORPG, the question that everyone asks: Is Tera just another pay-to-win game?
Not exactly, and we’ll let you know why.
About TERA (short for The Exiled Realm of Arborea):
TERA, short The Exiled Realm of Arborea, is a free-to-play action-based massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG).
It was released on January 25, 2011, in Korea, and in May 2012 in North America and Europe.
In early 2013, TERA made the switch to a free-to-play game.
TERA shares many of the same elements as other MMORPGs. Quests, gathering materials, crafting items, exploring dungeons, and engaging in PVP combat are all available to players.
The game is a “theme park” type MMORPG where players progress up in an open environment while doing tasks until they reach the level cap.
TERA gameplay
For their character, players can choose from a variety of different classes. TERA also maintains the classic “Holy Trinity” class structure, which divides class roles into damage dealer (commonly known as DPS), healer, and tank roles.
Within TERA’s dungeons, each role is critical to a group’s success.
There are seven different races to choose from, as well as 12 different classes. Archer, Berserker, Lancer, Mystic, Priest, Sorcerer, Slayer, and Warrior are all available for any race and gender since the game’s release.
Reaper, Gunner, Brawler, Ninja, and Valkyrie are among the newer classes that are gender and/or race restricted.
Each class is meant to work both solo and in groups. When you work together, your character will be more effective since the strengths of your teammates will complement your own.
Is TERA really a pay-to-win game?
The short answer is that TERA is pay-to-skip grind.
Spending has a few advantages. Since most items in the cash shop may be traded.
You can sell premium currency to other players in exchange for in-game gold, which you can then use to buy gear.
Having things be tradeable, on the other hand, ensures that after you’ve figured out how to make gold, you can simply play the game to get your cosmetics, account goods, and even a subscription.
In this game, the only way spending money benefits you is by converting cash shop value into gold worth.
However, the amount of gold required to purchase the strongest gear entirely is currently in the millions, which means you need to invest a lot of money if you really want to have some of the strongest gear in the game.
This does not, however, automatically place you in the top 1% of players or make you better, because the game requires skill and teamwork.
TERA is one of the best free-to-play games because it can be enjoyed without spending real money all the way to the end.
It does, however, have flaws, and if you really wanted to skip all the grind, you could pay to do so.
